Clipping Path vs. Image Masking are both photo-editing techniques that can help editors cut an issue from its background.
As I wrote in the first line of the article, both the clipping path and the image masking are the same but the question may arise as to why I am writing this article!
Basically, the original work or output is almost the same but the way of clipping and the method of masking the image are a little bit different.
Let’s go to open the difference between clipping path and image masking.
Do you know how clipping paths and photo masking work?
Both similar and fatally useful image editing techniques. Both strategies can distinguish an issue from the background.
The important difference between the two is the process of getting things done. In this article, I am going to give you a brief description of the difference between the clipping path vs. Image masking. What methods they follow and how they can both increase your sales on your eCommerce site.
But I’m masking with you before I share about the clipping path. Let’s first learn about the definition and use of both strategies.
What is the clipping path?
This is a Photoshop technique for removing the background from an image using the Pen tool. The clipping path technique is used for sharp, smooth-edged images.
However, designers should be extra careful when drawing the path with the pen tool. If the path is badly painted, the images look unnatural.
Designers have to zoom their images as much as possible to avoid making mistakes if necessary.
Types of clipping paths
There are 3 types of clipping paths depending on the involvement of an image and the goal. I am describing them in detail.
1. Single level clipping path:
Single level clipping path is creating a simple path using the pen tool in Photoshop at the same level as an image. This type is considered valuable for removing or changing the background from an image.
2. Multiple level clipping paths:
The name itself is giving you an idea. Carving a multi-layer path manipulating hand tools in Photoshop is said as a multi-layer clipping path. When an image has two or more objects, a multi-layer clipping path is used to fix or correct the background or a specific part of the image. Specialization is done to make this kind of rich.
3.Illustrator clipping path:
It follows the subjective regions of an image and creates one or more paths in the shape of a vector. It is a non-destructive process of an image. This type allows the resizing of an image to affect the resolution of an image.
Use clipping paths in image editing
There is no limit to the clipping path service usage. You can use a clipping path for multi-purpose convenience. Below are some notable uses of the clipping path.
Do you know what color is preferred for advertising a product on Amazon? It’s white. Not only Amazon but other e-commerce stores like Alibaba, Walmart, etc . also prefer a white background of product images.
This is one of the most important benefits of clipping paths. Do you want to give your product image a high-quality cutting-edge look? Use the pen tool which is a part of the clipping path.
Use of multi-clipping path:
Sometimes, a product requires multiple colors and the multi-clipping path is a perfect choice to ensure this function. The multi-clipping path works to change the shadows and remove the background from an image.
Create individual paths for each color and products in the image and get the most out of the multi-clipping path. This helps you reduce your photography at a uniquely available cost.
Wouldn’t you just hate it when you find that beautifully captured images look bad because of low color and poor lighting?
These types of images will lose the value of their brand to the customer. Did you start worrying about this? Say “goodbye” to your concerns and welcome “Clipping Path Services”.
The clipping path solves this problem and makes your product profitable. Each eCommerce site displays a tendency towards quality images that are intended for customers.
Suddenly, you found one of the childhood images that was damaged and you were thinking about how to repair it?
Say “hello” on the way to clipping again. Talk to a clipping path service team to give your image a new lease of life using the reconstruction process. They will do whatever it takes to capture the beauty of your childhood image.
All in all, the clipping path is a standard technique in Photoshop that provides quality services to make your image more attractive.
What is image masking?
Image masking also works to remove background from images. However, the process of background removal is completely different. Image masking uses different tools such as eraser tools, magic eraser tools, and other techniques without using the pen tool.
Image masking is more appropriate when the subject has fine lines and small details. For example, hair, feathers.
If designers want to cut a person’s face with hair, then applying image masking would be the right technique. Fur in sweaters, fur on stuffed animals can be a good example in the e-commerce world.
Types of photo masking
You can use masking photos in three strategies. They are –
Layer masking lets you hide or reveal any area of an image. Also, you can change the opacity level of different regions of an image.
Remember, if you improve the opacity by using the opacity slider from the layer panel, the opacity of the whole image will change. One of the best features of layer making is that it allows you to make an area completely invisible or partially visible in the image.
It uses one layer to control the perception or clarity of the other layer. For example, we use a layer below the layer we see to spread over transparency. From this to the bottom of the layer, we can adjust the precision of the top layer.
3.Alpha channel masking:
Compared to the above 2 types of masking, alpha channel masking is complex. Spreading hair and other areas is a time-consuming process and somewhat difficult.
The alpha channel masking technique will be more straightforward if the contrasting layers and background of the object are sufficient. This is also known as “raster making“. The balance seems to be different from the 2 types of masking, right?
Use of Photoshop masking services
We can use image masks in many parts. Below are some areas where Photoshop masking services will play an important function.
Creating Image Collage:
Want to create a collage image? Creating collage images is no longer difficult these days. A masking photograph provides full support in achieving this task.
You can quickly use different photos and create an interesting effect on the smell of masking in them. To smooth the change, use a soft brush and gray gradients.
Background removal or replacement:
You will have a great experience when removing or replacing the context of the transparent object. Turn your hand to your concerns when you are thinking of replacing a fake kind of fabric background.
Modifying any image:
Changing an image is quite common in photography. Let’s say You want to change the color of the top fabric of any model. Simply make the area visible by making a mask of that area and play with the color or adjust the shade, correct the contrast, or fix whatever you need.
Hide and Show:
You can hide and play using the image mask. As I said before, hiding and displaying is the most humble way of masking the image. If you want, you can simply brighten up a dull area using a gray brush. Still, there are other ways to achieve this, but it is the easiest way.
The difference between image masking and clipping paths
There is a slight difference between the clipping path and the image mask but you get distinct results. Before we make a brief overview of the best, we want you to decide after looking at the comparison below.
Nature of clipping path:
Only pen tools are used for quick background removal. The model in the sweater is not natural for complex images like hair and fudge. It will be suitable for general and medium images, where the object has sharp and smooth edges. Not suitable for professional use. Less competitive than image masking.
The nature of the image mask:
It takes time but a professional remover uses magic sorcery, refines the edges and the background eraser tools seem sharp and natural for professional work. Then use the masking technique.
What feels good? I would advise you to follow the image masking technique as it works easy to remove any background beyond the natural effect.
However, I’m not saying that the clipping path doesn’t work well but it can’t be a good finisher when you work with a complex image to remove the subject.
When you do a Google search you will see many examples and you will see comparisons because it does not seem very normal when zooming in. When dealing with a critical product it takes more time to settle.
Now hopefully, know the whole matter about Clipping Path vs. Masking what is the main difference and all types.
